It turns out you need a LOT of room for growing melons! We started with two little 4-inch starter plants – one watermelon and one cantaloupe -and planted them where we THOUGHT there was plenty of room…

It is crazy exciting when the first little melons show up! They’re tiny enough to fit in a shot glass, and they grow REALLY fast.

Meanwhile, the plants have gotten so big that we had to move a walkway to make a melon crossing!
